Training & Supervision
Welcoming Future Psychologists
The clinical psychology training program at JPC is grounded in a deep commitment to supporting the growth, learning, and professional development of the next generation of clinical psychologists.
What Our Training Program Offers
Quality Supervision
Supervision is the heart of our training program. Our supervisors are experienced clinicians who bring a range of expertise, cultural backgrounds, and clinical wisdom to each supervisory relationship. They are deeply committed to supporting each trainee’s growth through thoughtful, developmentally responsive guidance.
At JPC, supervision is a collaborative learning process tailored to the clinician’s stage of development. Supervisors provide a progression of modeling, guided practice, and consultation that strengthens clinical skills, confidence, and increasing autonomy. High expectations are paired with warmth, consistent feedback, and multiple hours of weekly individual and group supervision, alongside didactic training.
Theory in Practice
At JPC, we believe that deep clinical work begins with deep reflection and conceptualization. Our training emphasizes the integration of theory into practice—grounding case conceptualization in a rich tradition and study of human psychology and neurobiology while considering the complex interplay between history, context, and presenting concerns.
Trainees are supported in developing robust theoretical formulations that not only describe what a client is experiencing, but explore why and how these patterns have emerged and can be changed over time. Through supervision and didactics, trainees learn to work flexibly across theoretical frameworks while also learning to think critically about theory—its origins, assumptions, and limitations. This reflective stance promotes ethical, culturally attuned clinical work that is rigorous, emotionally responsive, and transformative for both client and therapist.
Diverse Clinical Experience
Clinicians work with clients across a range of ages, identities, cultural backgrounds, belief systems, life experiences, and presenting concerns. This exposure is central to developing clinical range and cultural humility. By engaging with varied presenting concerns such as anxiety and trauma to identity development and relationship challenges—trainees learn to adapt their approach while deepening their conceptual understanding and sharpening their clinical skills.
Supervision and training emphasize how identity, power, and context shape the therapeutic relationship, inviting clinicians to grow in both competence and compassion.
Supportive Learning Environment
JPC offers a learning environment grounded in curiosity, collaboration, and respect. Trainees are encouraged to ask questions, reflect openly, and take intellectual and emotional risks as they grow in integrating clinical knowledge with real-world therapeutic encounters.
We believe that learning is most powerful when it is both rigorous and relational. At JPC, trainees are not just supported—they are seen, challenged, and invited into meaningful conversations that help shape their clinical voice and identity. Our training model emphasizes flexibility, work/life balance, and growing clinical autonomy to support sustainable, individualized growth.
Professional Development
We view training as more than skill-building—it is identity-shaping. Our environment fosters thoughtful professional growth, encouraging clinicians to reflect intentionally on their development and who they are becoming as practitioners.
By the end of the training experience, clinicians leave feeling more confident, grounded, and purposeful in their work. They have a clearer sense of the responsibilities and opportunities of clinical psychologists and their own unique path in the field.
Current Training Opportunities
Postdoctoral Fellowship
Our two-year postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology offers a comprehensive experience in therapy and assessment, with the option to select a primary focus track. Postdocs also have the opportunity to build supervision skills through didactic training and supervision-of-supervision while working with a practicum student. Individualized supervision and mentoring help clinicians strengthen clinical skills and solidify their professional identity during this final phase of training. The second year allows for focused study, licensure support, and continued depth in clinical work and knowledge.
We invite applicants with experience in therapy and assessment with both adults and youth, and a strong interest in trauma-responsive, dynamic clinical work and supervision.
The Psychotherapy Track is designed for postdoctoral clinicians who wish to deepen their knowledge and experiences with long-term psychotherapy, with a depth and relational focus. Clinicians maintain a full therapy caseload that may include individual therapy with adults and adolescents, play therapy with children, and relational therapies. Qualified and interested candidates will also receive training in parent guidance work and in supporting whole family systems. This track offers specialized training in a range of therapeutic approaches used at JPC, which may include Sandtray Therapy, EMDR, Brainspotting, Circle of Security, psychodynamic therapy, and other depth-oriented and trauma-informed modalities. Clinicians in the Psychotherapy Track also have the option to gain supervision competencies by working with externs and to complete diagnostic assessment cases to learn our collaborative and therapeutic approach to evaluations. Rich group supervision, case consultation, and didactic training are woven throughout this formative training experience.
The Diagnostic Assessment Track is designed for postdoctoral clinicians who wish to deepen their expertise in comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological evaluation. Clinical hours are primarily focused on diagnostic assessment cases and include intake interviews, test administration and scoring, case conceptualization, report writing, and therapeutic feedback sessions. The goal of this track is to develop proficiency in our trauma-informed, collaborative, and therapeutic approach to assessment, grounded in the Therapeutic Assessment model.
Clinicians receive supportive supervision and engage in ongoing collaboration with supervisors and other members of the clinical team. This may include one-way mirror observations, co-testing, and supervision of diagnostic externs. The track offers specialized training in a wide range of assessment measures used at JPC, including instruments such as the ADOS-2 and R-PAS for qualified clinicians. Clinicians in the Diagnostic Assessment Track also have the option to maintain a limited psychotherapy caseload, allowing for continued integration of assessment and therapeutic work. Rich group supervision, case consultation, and didactic training are woven throughout this formative training experience.
The Family Mental Health Program (FMHP) Track is designed for postdoctoral clinicians interested in specializing in child and adolescent psychology, perinatal mental health, and parent/caregiver guidance. Clinicians in this track maintain a full therapy and/or assessment caseload primarily focused on working with children, parents, and families, including play therapy, parent guidance therapy, and psychoeducational groups for new or expecting parents.
This track includes specialized training opportunities, including advanced certifications such as Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) and Circle of Security Parenting (COSP). These frameworks are integrated into both individual and group therapy to strengthen family mental health and support healthy child development. Clinicians also work alongside an experienced child psychologist to provide psychoeducation and training to other professionals around family mental health topics and to help build and refine FMHP programming. Opportunities for extern supervision are available, with rich group supervision, case consultation, and didactic training woven throughout this formative training experience.
Doctoral Externships
Our practicum training program spans all levels of training. Practicum is a structured, in-person clinical training experience that centers strengthening of clinical skills through direct clinical experience and collaborative supervision.
Assessment externs gain hands-on experience in comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological assessment that is rooted in collaborative and therapeutic assessment principles.
Externs learn administration, scoring, integration and interpretation of various measures and hone their skills in writing comprehensive neuropsychological reports. Data-based and theoretically-grounded clinical conceptualization and individualized recommendations are emphasized and the learning is supported through seminars, individual and group supervision, and observation, and collaborative work with experienced clinical psychologists.
Our therapy externship offers rich clinical experience with youth, adults, and families, with a strong focus on deepening psychotherapy skills. Externs engage in developmentally responsive, trauma-informed therapy while integrating theory into practice. Training emphasizes theoretical conceptualization, reflective practice, and developing a clear clinical voice—all within a highly supportive environment that includes individual and group supervision designed to foster confidence and growth.
Advanced externs are immersed in depth-focused training and supervision while strengthening their clinical skills via outpatient therapy and assessment with individuals of diverse backgrounds, ages, and presenting concerns.
Advanced case conceptualization and intervention is rooted in developmental and psychodynamic theories and enriched by structured interventions. Advanced externs also have the opportunity to develop supervisory and leadership skills and deepen their knowledge of private practice.
